The UK will supply 650 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) to boost Ukraine’s air defenses.

The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom announced this.

The contract for the supply of the announced missiles is worth £162 million.

The report states that this assistance is part of the new British government’s commitment to Ukraine.

The air defense package will be announced by Defence Secretary John Healey MP today at the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) meeting at US Air Force Base in Ramstein.

In keeping with the new government’s commitment to speed up deliveries of aid, the first batch of LMM missiles announced today are also expected to be delivered by the end of this year. They are manufactured by the British defense company Thales at their Belfast factory.

It is noted that the LMM missiles that will be transferred to Ukraine are highly versatile and can be fired from a variety of platforms on land, sea, and air.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, the UK has provided hundreds of LMM missiles to Ukraine for air defense, destroying hundreds of Russian drones and other air threats.

LMM missiles by Thales are used by the Defense Forces of Ukraine on Stormer air defense systems and Martlet MANPADS.

The Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) is a versatile small-sized multi-purpose guided missile with a launch weight of 13 kg, a length of 1.3 m and a body diameter of 76 mm.

A special feature of the LMM is the use of a two-channel guidance system – laser beam and infrared at the final guidance section.

Cumulative fragmentation warhead weighs 3 kg. When working on an air target it is detonated by a non-contact laser detonator. The two-stage solid propellant engine ensures a relatively low rocket speed M = 1.5 and a long range (up to 8 km).
