The latest Heron armored vehicle with a 6×6 wheel formula was presented at the MSPO 2024 defense industry exhibition in Poland.

Militarnyi reports on this.

The armored vehicle, based on the French-Czech Titus, is a mobile command post vehicle designed to control the fire of M142 HIMARS, K239PL, and WR-40 Langusta multiple launch rocket systems.

The Heron is a joint project of the Polish Armament Group (PAG), developed by Huta Stalowa Wola in cooperation with partners from Poland and abroad.

The armored vehicle’s maximum speed on the road is limited to 100 kilometers per hour. It has two fuel tanks with a total volume of 400 liters, which provide a range of more than 600 kilometers.

The vehicle can travel on slopes with an incline of at least 70%, a grade of more than 38°, and a descent angle of more than 50°. The maximum roll is 35°, and the pitch is 32°.

Heron can force its way through water obstacles up to 1.2 meters deep, vertical obstacles 0.4 meters high, and ditches 1.6 meters wide.

A Tatra T3-928 air-cooled eight-cylinder V-twin diesel engine powers the vehicle.

RE Euro 3 with an output of 300 kW/408 hp and a maximum torque of 2100 Nm. Caterpillar C9.3B liquid-cooled engines with an output of 395 kW/537 hp and 2000 Nm or 447 kW/608 hp and 2265 Nm or Cummins ISL with an output of 373 kW/500 hp can be optionally installed.

The engine transmits torque through an Allison 4500SP automatic transmission with six forward and reverse gears.

The vehicle has a high level of ballistic and mine protection, ensuring the crew’s safety and maintaining high mobility.

The vehicle is equipped with many modern solutions, including laser protection systems, fire protection, filter ventilation, teleinformation, and acoustic gunshot detectors.

Militarnyi already reported on the announcement of this combat vehicle back in May.

TITUS 6×6

The Tactical Infantry Transport and Utility System (TITUS) was developed on the chassis of the Tatra T815 vehicle with a 6×6 wheel configuration and was first presented in 2013.

The basic version weighs 17 tons. With additional reservations, the weight can increase to 23 tons. With a maximum payload of 4 tons, the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight can reach 27 tons.

The armored vehicle’s body has a modular design, which makes it possible to create a variety of specialized vehicles based on TITUS. The vehicle is 7.55 meters long, 2.55 meters wide, and 2.73 meters high.

Titus is manufactured in cooperation with the French defense company Nexter Systems, which develops and supplies the armored hulls for these vehicles.
