North Korea has held a ceremony to hand over a large batch of Hwasong-11D tactical ballistic missile launchers to its army.
This was reported by South Korean media with reference to the DPRK’s Central News Agency.
During a ceremony in Pyongyang with the participation of the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, the Korean People’s Army received new Hwasongpho-11Ra short-range ballistic missile systems, also known as Hwasong-11D in the Western designation.
The Central News Agency reported that a large batch of 250 mobile launchers was handed over to military units stationed on the front line with South Korea.
In one of the published photos, 250 TELs can be seen, which is a huge number not only for one batch but for the country as a whole. This is significant not just for North Korea but also for other countries on the continent.
For example, according to The Military Balance directory of 2023, Russia had only 200 launchers for ballistic missiles of various modifications in service: 150 Iskander systems and 50 Tochka-U systems.
Each vehicle in the complex is a carrier for four transport and launch containers for ballistic missiles. In fact, this means that the transferred launchers can simultaneously provide a total volley of 1,000 missiles.
The missiles in the system are considered to be a smaller version of the KN-23 missile, which is a local copy of the Russian 9M723 Iskander-M missile.
The exact tactical and technical information about this missile is unknown, but according to various estimates, its range can be about 180 kilometers. However, it is possible that, due to the reduction of the warhead, this parameter could be much higher.
It is worth noting that the older missile of the KN-23 family has already proven itself in combat when it was used by the Russian military to strike the Kharkiv region.
Despite the widespread use of microelectronics manufactured by Western companies, the missiles had a significant percentage of misses and failures during flight, which led to a deviation from the trajectory.
In late July, Militarnyi reported that other North Korean-made Bulsae-4 ATGM systems had been spotted on the front line in Ukraine.
