The US discovered additional errors in the calculations of military aid for Ukraine.
Reuters reported on this.
The Pentagon has found $2 billion worth of additional errors in its calculations for ammunition, missiles and other equipment sent to Ukraine.
This revealed that the value of the aid was falsely increased by $2 billion, and the improperly valued material was $8.2 billion.
This is not the first time this has happened. In 2023, Pentagon officials reported that the accounting department had used “replacement value” instead of “depreciated value” to calculate the cost of the aid.
The $6.2 billion error created a path for additional funding to be sent to Ukraine.
According to Pentagon officials, the cost mismatch could lead to an insufficient amount of military aid for Ukraine in the specified time frame.
Additionally, the GAO has issued seven recommendations to the Defense Department, urging it to update its guidance to include a PDA-specific valuation section and develop component-specific valuation procedures.
Militarnyi previously reported that the United States government had announced a new military aid package for Ukraine.
This Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package to be provided from DoD inventories.
The $225 million tranche of equipment includes one battery of the Patriot air defense system, which was announced by Joe Biden the day before.
In addition, munitions for NASAMS and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles are being provided to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
