Russian military servicemen may face punishments for using gadgets with network connectivity and geolocation transmission.
The amendment was prepared by Andrey Kartapolov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Defense Committee of the Russian Duma.
Russian military personnel who use smartphones or tablets that can connect to the web or have geolocation transmission functions will receive disciplinary sanctions.
In addition, the draft law proposes classifying the use of such gadgets as a gross disciplinary offense.
Additionally, a serviceman can be punished if his device has the ability to take photos/videos and make audio recordings.
It should be noted that such a ban has been in place in the Russian army for a long time, but the new amendments allow for disciplinary arrest for violation of the ban by a decision of the garrison military court.
Despite this, the Russian servicemen continue to use both smartphones and tablets, as they are one of the most important elements for controlling drones and communicating between the Russian military and units.
During the discussion of this draft law, debate ensued, as a complete ban on such devices would only worsen the situation for the Russian military.
However, according to Andrey Kartapolov, this decision is the only right one, as it will protect the Russian military from the bad influence of the Internet.
As noted, according to the law, disciplinary arrest is imposed for up to 10 days for one gross disciplinary offense.
This draft law must now be signed by the Russian president.
Militarnyi previously reported that the regiment commander, who was involved in the killing of civilians in Bucha, was detained in Russia on suspicion of large-scale fraud.
