A car carrying a high-ranking Russian officer exploded as a result of the detonation of an unidentified object in Moscow.
The Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that officer Andrei Torgashov was injured.
The officer is in a hospital in extremely serious condition; both his feet were blown off by the bomb placed under the driver’s seat of the SUV.
“He served in the Main Intelligence Directorate and was responsible for communications in his unit,” the sources said.
A Toyota Land Cruiser exploded in the morning in a parking lot on Sinyavynska Street.
After the explosion, law enforcement officers blocked off the entire area near the house on Sinyavynska Street.
According to the publication, the TNT equivalent of the explosive device was half a kilogram.
Despite the fact that 49-year-old Major Andriy Torgashov allegedly served in military intelligence and worked with secure communications, his information was published on the Internet long before the explosion.
According to analysts of the Astra telegram channel, he holds the position of deputy head of the satellite communications center of military unit 33790, stationed in the Moscow region.
According to RIA Novosti’s law enforcement source, one of the versions of the explosion is “an attempted assassination related to his professional activities.”
In April, a car carrying a former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, who had fled to Russia, exploded in the Russian capital.
The incident also occurred in a parking lot near a residential building. The epicenter of the explosion was near the driver’s seat.
