Ukraine and Romania sign a security agreement during the NATO summit in Washington.
The Office of the President of Ukraine reported on this.
The agreement was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
Ukraine will receive a Patriot air defense system from Romania as part of the security cooperation agreement. The decision on the transfer was made at a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense (Consiliului Suprem de Apărare a Țării) on June 20.
In addition, some clauses of the agreement allow for the fastest possible transit of all necessary equipment through Romania to Ukraine.
Some points will also strengthen cooperation and security conditions in the Black Sea region.
Thus, Romania will help Ukraine demine the Black Sea and provide some support through the European Union and NATO instruments.
“Separate sections of the document deal with intelligence and counterintelligence, cybersecurity, information security, humanitarian demining, sanctions, and the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine,” the President’s Office stated.
One important point is that Romania, together with its partners, will officially assist the F-16 training center in training Ukrainian pilots.
Ukraine has already signed 23 bilateral security agreements with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the US, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, and Romania.
Militarnyi previously reported that Romania will finance the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets at the Fătăști air base.
The country will use the Ministry of Defense budget to cover the costs incurred by Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel while staying at the Romanian air base.
