China’s assistance to Russia plays a key role in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this at a press conference in Brussels, Liga.net reports.

As an example, he cited that in 2023, 90% of microelectronics imported by the aggressor country came from China.

Stoltenberg emphasized that electronic equipment is key to the production of various types of weapons, and China is creating an opportunity for Russia to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine.

He noted that NATO sees China “playing a key role in enabling or supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

“90% of the microelectronics that Russia imported last year came from China. This electronic equipment is key to the production of missiles, bombs, and battle tanks used in Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.

On June 12, it was announced that the leaders of the G7 countries would call on China to stop supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine following the summit in Italy.

According to Radio Svoboda, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated in late May that the Chinese delegation would not go to Switzerland for the “peace summit.”

“China has always insisted that the international peace conference should be recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, with equal participation of all parties,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at the time.

China also does not want the 10-point Ukrainian “peace formula” to be used as a basis for discussion.

According to the British international business magazine The Financial Times, during his May visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked Xi Jinping for three things:

  • to build the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline to supply Russian gas to China.
  • to increase the activity of Chinese banks in Russia.
  • China’s non-participation in the peace conference in Switzerland in June.

In other words, China is interested in the current situation for its own interests.
