On the night of Wednesday, April 24, fires broke out at fuel and energy facilities in the Smolensk region of Russia.

The regional authorities and the Russian media reported on this.

The fires allegedly broke out as a result of an attack by Ukrainian drones that Russian air defense was trying to shoot down.

In the morning, Vasily Anokhin, the region’s governor, said that fuel and energy facilities in the Smolensk and Yartsevsky districts were on fire.

At the same time, local residents report that an oil refinery or oil depot is on fire.

Published eyewitness videos capture tanks with fuel and lubricants burning.

According to locals, at least 4 to 5 explosions were heard before the fire after the drone attack.

Rescuers are currently working at the scene to extinguish the open flames.

Anokhin also asked residents of the Smolensk region to “remain calm and not panic.”

Previously, drones hit the fuel and energy facility in Kardymovo, Smolensk region, Russia.

Russia claimed that air defense forces destroyed the drones, but due to falling debris, a container with fuel and lubricants was on fire.

Strike drones attacked the military unit’s radar in the Russian city of Kovylkino, Mordovia. The range of air target detection of the 29B6 Container dual-coordinate over-the-horizon radar is over 3000 km, with a viewing sector of 240 degrees.
