Over the course of 5-7 months, Russia’s central tank reserve bases were emptied of almost 400 tanks.
Researchers from the Resurgam, @vishun_military, and Mortis Aeterna platforms reported on this.
The average rate of depletion of bases is 44-75 units per month.
“This rate allows them to cover current losses,” analysts say.
However, its persistence throughout 2023 and early 2024 indicates that the “scaling ceiling” for tank modernization and restoration has been reached.
The demothballing rate has slightly decreased compared to previous years, but observations show that the reason is primarily a decrease in the quality of the equipment being demothballed. This makes tank repair plants spend more time and resources per unit of equipment.
An analysis of the main armor plants showed a large overcrowding of sites, which indicates that these plants are overloaded.
“In the study, we covered up to 95% of the main places where tank reserves could be stored,” analysts share.
The count showed that 3,150 tanks at the central tank reserve bases and 1,300 to 1,500 tanks in waiting areas and near the workshops of major armored repair plants remain suitable for deconservation and restoration.
“However, the technical condition of the 3,150 units remaining on the bases is very different and often quite questionable,” the researchers said.
Tanks without turrets and tanks in recycling zones, which are almost completely dismantled for spare parts and cannot be used even as “donors” for spare parts, were not taken into account at the storage bases. Tanks from the 1311th Base remain the most suitable for restoration.
“This amount should be enough for the enemy to support the restoration of tanks until early 2026,” the researchers noted.
