Ukrainian forces managed to detect and destroy a Buk SAM in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported that the system was discovered on March 28.

To reconnoiter the Russian position, a Kabul 9 Special Purpose Unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, which was established at the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion, was involved.

It was formed by veterans of the Ukrainian special services and the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the assistance and participation of Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The unit’s soldiers managed to detect the Russian air defense system near the village of Velyka Bilozerka.

Ukrainian intelligence officers used the reconnaissance drone to adjust the artillery fire that hit the system.

“Kabul 9 Special Purpose Unit detected a Russian Buk SAM and guided our artillery fire at it,” the Defense Intelligence reported.

Presumably, the US M142 HIMARS rocket system was used to destroy the Buk SAM, which needed only one shell to destroy the system.

As a result, the Russian invaders lost the 9A310M1-2 TELAR of the 9K37M1-2 Buk-M1-2 system, which should weaken Russian air defense in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The 9А310М1-2 TELAR of the Buk-М1-2 SAM is fully autonomous and highly mobile and is capable of reconnoitering targets in airspace and launching missiles regardless of other units of the system.

Full autonomy and the ability to fire without associated radars are ensured due to the installation of its own radar on board.

As previously reported, the Ukrainian military destroyed a Russian fire-control radar of the Buk air defense system.
