The Ukrainian General Staff explained the main indicators that make up the total losses of the Russian invaders.

Senior Lieutenant Andriy Kovalev, spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Ukrainska Pravda that they consist of two main indicators of losses suffered by the enemy during combat operations.

These are irreplaceable combat losses and sanitary losses of the enemy.

As of February 27, 2024, the total losses of the Russian invaders are approximately 412,400 people.

Since 2014, casualties among the Russian military have remained one of the main taboos for discussion within Russia.

Based only on the data from the Register of Inheritance Cases (RIC) of statistics of the Federal State Statistics Service and the list of fallen servicemen compiled by Mediaphone in cooperation with the BBC Russian Service, analysts estimated the number of Russian military killed in Ukraine at 75,000.

This estimate covers a period of almost two years: from February 24, 2022, to the end of 2023. According to the calculation algorithm, not all deaths are accounted for.

Losses reached their highest levels during the Battle of Bakhmut in January-March 2023.

“According to our data, up to two thousand people died a week during this period, and most of them were former prisoners,” the analysts stated.

As previously reported, at a large press conference on February 25, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed during Russia’s full-scale invasion, and 180 thousand Russian soldiers were killed.

“I don’t know how many missing persons they have, and I know that it is up to 500, including the wounded. 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed. And it is very painful for us. I won’t say how many were wounded because Russia will know how many people have left the battlefield, I just won’t say it,” Zelensky stated.

The President also stated that there are missing persons in the Ukrainian military, but he did not provide any figures.
