During 2023, the Vector Optical Laboratory (VOL) Foundation repaired 2546 devices for the military free of charge.
The Foundation shared with Militarnyi that the market value of similar new devices exceeds $9 million.
Vector Optical Laboratory was founded in 2015 by military volunteers Ihor Fedirko and Andrii Vysochin.
The Foundation is involved in the repair of faulty optical and electronic devices, namely thermal imaging and collimator sights, night vision devices, and thermal imagers.
Military personnel are using the refurbished devices for reconnaissance, surveillance, fire adjustment, and night operations.
In the summer of 2023, the Foundation launched a new direction of repairing civilian quadcopters (DJI Mavic drones, Matrice).
Since then, the Foundation’s engineers have restored 1,299 drones with a market value of over $5 million. The average price of a refurbished drone is $3,700.
Repair costs in the VOL Foundation usually do not exceed 15% of the cost of new devices.
Thus, the VOL Foundation not only restores the equipment necessary for military personnel but also ensures the effective use of funds.
“In 2023, the Foundation’s repair costs were under 5% of the cost of new devices. In fact, this is $9 million that the society has not spent on providing the military with technological devices,” Oleksandra Brisova, CEO of the VOL Charitable Foundation, shared.
In total, since 2015, 10,073 devices have been restored over 8 years of operation of the Vector Optical Laboratory (VOL) Foundation.
In 2020, the Special Operations Forces received GPNVG-18 devices for nighttime warfare.
