The Swedish Parliament voted in favor of donating further transfers of military aid to Ukraine with the strengthening of air defense.
According to the information published on the Swedish Parliament website, the new package includes ammunition and mine clearing equipment.
Sweden is also providing Ukraine with spare parts for previously supplied systems, ammunition, mine clearing equipment, and vehicles.
The Riksdag has also decided to give the Government the opportunity to sell a limited number of air-to-air missiles of the type Rb 99 (AMRAAM) to the USA.
The USA has launched a program to repurchase older versions of AMRAAM missiles, provided the same countries purchase new AMRAAM missiles.
The Rb 99 medium-range air-to-air missile is a licensed version of the American AIM-120B (AMRAAM) missile with a range of up to 70 kilometers, which was previously assembled in Sweden.
Swedish JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighters are armed with these missiles. These missiles will be used in the NASAMS air defense systems, which are in service with the Ukrainian Air Force.
In general, ammunition and spare parts worth almost SEK 1.1 billion, trucks, and mine clearing equipment worth SEK 2.15 billion will be transferred to meet the needs of the Ukrainian army.
This package will be the 13th since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Sweden also became one of the countries that joined the declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine adopted on July 12 by the G7 countries (Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, and Italy).
The declaration provides for the accession of any country willing to provide assistance to Ukraine. Subsequently, Ukraine will sign bilateral agreements on security guarantees with them.
Sweden and France signed agreements on defense procurement with Ukraine.
