The Russians have placed explosive-like objects on the roof of two power units of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the invaders were preparing for a possible provocation.

According to their information, on July 4, foreign objects similar to explosive devices were placed on the external roof of the third and fourth power units of the ZNPP.

“Their detonation should not damage the power units, but may create a picture of Ukrainian shelling,” the General Staff said.

The General Staff also added that the military monitors and controls the situation, and is ready to act under any conditions.

Before that, the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the Russian leadership had drafted and approved a plan to blow up the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

Russian troops placed military equipment with explosives near 4 out of 6 power units of the ZNPP.

“The plan for a terrorist attack on the ZNPP has been drafted and approved. They can use technical tools to accelerate the disaster,” Kyrylo Budanov said.

Russia views the creation of a nuclear disaster zone as a safeguard against the further advancement of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

On June 21, the International Atomic Energy Agency said that its officials had not spotted any mines in the cooling reservoir, although it acknowledged that Russian forces had mined areas in and around the ZNPP.

“The IAEA is aware of previous placement of mines outside the plant perimeter, which the Agency has previously reported, and also at particular places inside – which security personnel at the plant explained were for defensive purposes,” the report said.

Russian troops occupied the city of Enerhodar and the nearby Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant at the end of February 2022.
