Ukraine will soon have more NASAMS air defense systems.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, announced this.

Recently, the Ukrainian delegation visited the enterprise in Norway, where these systems are produced.

“Today, together with Eirik Lie, Head of Kongsberg Defense&Aerospace, and Masud Gharahkhani, President of the Storting, we talked about increasing the supply of air defense systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

Stefanchuk emphasized that “Ukraine must win the war started by Russia. And Ukraine will win. Norway stands side by side with us.”

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also noted that the new NASAMS systems will be in Ukraine in the near future.

“The systems are in Ukraine, and we need more. And there will be more of them! Shortly! Very soon! To shoot down everything that Russia in its agony unleashes on peaceful Ukrainian cities even more effectively, and to protect itself from the brutal attacks that the Russian Federation continues to carry out against Ukraine,” the Chairman emphasized.

Currently, two batteries of NASAMS air defense systems are in service with the Ukrainian Air Force.

Also, six more systems were ordered by the United States and one by Canada as part of military aid to Ukraine.

Norway also recently announced plans to transfer two fire platoons of this air defense system to Ukraine.

The composition of the NASAMS air defense system battery can vary, but it usually includes three firing units, each of which includes 2 or 3 missile launchers, one AN/MPQ-64F1 Improved Sentinel radar, one control vehicle, and one vehicle with the MSP500 electro-optical sensor. Each fire platoon of the air defense system is capable of working independently or in conjunction with other platoons in the battery.

NASAMS has proven to be an effective air defense system. Adding two more firing units would significantly improve Ukraine’s ability to protect its cities and critical infrastructure from Russian missile attacks.
