The American defense company Red Cat will supply 200 high-speed FPV drones to equip the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The press service of Red Cat Holdings announced this on its official website.
According to the manufacturer, these drones have a high power-to-weight ratio, providing increased maneuverability and functionality. UAVs can be used in combat when the GPS signal is missing or blocked by electronic warfare systems.
The company has planned to deliver FPV drones to Ukraine in June this year. The list also includes her new “night” Teal 2 UAV.
Teal 2 is a military reconnaissance drone developed by American Red Cat Holdings in partnership with Athena AI, Reveal Technology, and Tomahawk Robotics. The UAV was first introduced in April of last year.
Teal 2 is a lightweight quadcopter weighing 1.25 kg. It can stay in the air for 30 minutes and perform tasks within a radius of up to 5 km at altitudes of up to 3 thousand meters.
The manufacturer calls the drone a military system that is adapted to work in harsh combat conditions. One of the main advantages of Teal 2 is its secure communication channel, autonomous inertial positioning system in space, and protection from enemy EW systems.
The UAV is adapted to perform tasks in the nighttime and is equipped with a Hadron 640R thermal imaging camera manufactured by the American Teledyne FLIR. This enables the operator to obtain a high-resolution thermal image from the UAV.
Red Cat Holdings is also actively working on the development and integration of neural network-based software into Teal 2 class UAVs in cooperation with Athena AI.
Advanced artificial intelligence technology will automatically recognize targets and weapons during reconnaissance missions, even in low-image quality conditions. The system must also detect self-foreign recognition markers such as infrared beacons and Cyalume reflectors.
Teal 2 UAVs are already used in military and paramilitary services. Last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency signed a contract with Red Cat to supply 54 Teal 2 unmanned systems.
Previously, Militarnyi reported that Ukraine has already contracted almost 1,600 drones for the Defense Forces worth UAH 3.3 billion through the Army of Drones project. This statement was made during the UAV Production: Opportunities and Challenges conference.
