The wreckage of a “military object” resembling the wreckage of a missile was found in Poland.
The wreckage was discovered near the town of Zamość, about 15 km from the city of Bydgoszcz.
The press service of the Ministry of Defense of Poland announced this on April 27 on its social networks.
They emphasized that the situation does not pose a threat to the safety of local residents. Police officers and sappers are investigating the place of discovery.
The Military Department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk started an investigation into the object discovered in the forest under the supervision of the National Prosecutor’s Office. However, they refused to provide any information on this matter at this time.
RMF FM journalists learned from their sources that these are probably the remains of an air-to-ground missile. According to journalists, the debris was discovered in the forest on Monday, April 24.
However, it is currently unclear how long the wreckage stayed in the forest. It could be several days or several weeks.
At first, the Polish authorities believed that they had found parts of a drone in the forest. It later turned out that it could be the remains of an air-to-ground missile. It is also claimed that the wreckage allegedly had inscriptions in Russian written on it. The missile is allegedly missing a warhead, but its fate is unknown. It could have exploded or separated and fallen somewhere without detonating. The search for it continues.
The place where the object was discovered has been surrounded by law enforcement officers since April 26. The military police guard the entrance to the forest. Sappers and firemen have also been spotted on the scene.
RMF FM, citing anonymous sources, notes that the wreckage of the missile could belong to the Polish military.
Journalist Krzysztof Zasada unofficially found out that the missile probably ended up in the forest not because of shelling from abroad. In fact, he believes that these weapon fragments come from the Polish military. The circumstances of the likely fall of the missile are currently unknown.
The Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze 2 aircraft factory, which repairs, in particular, F-16 fighter jets, is located not far from the scene, about 10 kilometers away from Zamość. There is also an airfield nearby, used by this company and the Polish military.
