The Ukrainian Defense Forces are reinforced by Romanian TAB-71M armored personnel carriers.
Footage of loading these armored vehicles on tractors was shown on social media.
The first batch of TAB-71M APC entered service with the Ukrainian military last year.
However, the exact information on the number of armored vehicles, as well as from whom they came, is still unknown.
Before the full-scale invasion of Russia, these armored personnel carriers were not in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The TAB-71М armored personnel carrier is a licensed version of the Soviet BTR-60PB APC, produced in Romania during the years of the Warsaw Pact.
The main difference from the Soviet APC is the replacement of the engine; two French Saviem 797-05 are installed.
There were several modifications, including a version with an M-37M 82mm mortar mounted in the landing compartment.
TAB-71M was produced from the early 1970s until the early 1990s at the Fabrica de Masini Grele Speciale special heavy engineering plant in Bucharest.
The crew consists of 3 people, and there are eight soldiers in the landing compartment, standard weapons consist of two machine guns.
It is known that TAB-71M was in service with the Armed Forces of Moldova, as well as Romania. In 2017, Bucharest decided to replace them with a more modern model.
According to the latest data, in Moldova there were 110 armored personnel carriers of this model, in Romania – 247, about 40 more units were made for Yugoslavia, but how many remained after the collapse of the state is unknown.
