Canada will additionally allocate 7.5 million Canadian dollars to Ukraine for mine clearance and training of Ukrainian specialists.
Mélanie Joly, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced this during a meeting with Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs.
This amount is equal to USD 5,175,000.
The parties discussed urgent needs and problems for which the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine needs assistance and support from international partners.
Joly assured that Canada will continue helping Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor and will do everything possible for Ukraine to overcome the consequences of the war and be able to develop further.
Canada is actively participating in training Ukrainian pyrotechnicians and specialists in the explosives service. It also helps with the technical provision of humanitarian demining of Ukrainian territories.
Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs assured that demining Ukraine will remain one of the priorities of Canadian aid.
Therefore, the country decided to allocate additional funds for these needs.
“Canada will allocate an additional 7.5 million Canadian dollars to demine the Ukrainian territories, in particular, to train your specialists. In this work, you can count on us,” Mélanie Joly said.
In December 2022, Reuters reported that Canada will allocate USD 11 million for equipment needed by Ukraine for humanitarian demining. These funds should be used to purchase special protective suits for demining specialists.
This money will also be allocated to purchase means of detecting explosive objects in large areas, for example, in agricultural fields.
In addition, in November of last year, the Canadian military started training Ukrainian sappers in Poland.
