The investigation team of the shootdown of the МН17 flight in July 2014 believes that “there are strong signs that the Russian president was the one behind the decision to supply heavy weapons to DPR militants.”

“Russian President Putin allowed the use of weapons from which the MH17 flight was shot down over Ukraine in 2014,” the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) reported during a press conference in Hague.

Also, journalists were provided with files where the Russians claim that all decisions on the supply of BUK air defense systems to the territory of Ukraine are made by the highest leadership of the state, that is, Putin.

In addition, they released audio conversations between Putin and Igor Plotnitsky. This proves that the leaders of the self-proclaimed republics communicated directly with the top leadership of the Russian Federation.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine also commented on the published materials.

“Now no one doubts the involvement of the highest leadership of the Russian Federation. It was the president of the aggressor country who gave the criminal order to supply weapons to the “DPR” and “LPR” groups. This was the root cause of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 298 civilians,” said Andriy Kostin, Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

The Investigation Team (JTI) also stated that despite a considerable amount of information about the persons involved in the shootdown of the aircraft, there is not enough evidence to bring them to justice.

In November 2022, the court found Igor Girkin, Sergei Dubinsky, and Leonid Kharchenko guilty of shooting down the MH17 flight.

Oleg Pulatov, another suspect, was found not guilty.

Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinsky, and Leonid Kharchenko were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court is sure that the MH17 plane was destroyed by a BUK missile shot from the territory of Pervomaysky occupied by Russia.

The court also confirmed the active participation of the accused Dubinsky and Kharchenko in the delivery of air defense systems to the missile launch site.
