A new combat military unit was established in the Poltava region, which strengthened the air forces in the eastern direction.
The new anti-aircraft missile regiment was established to more effectively solve the combat tasks of covering troop groups, according to the Air Command East.
It also covers infrastructure facilities, as well as administrative and industrial centers in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
Since the regiment is being formed during warfare, the local authorities and communities are directly involved in its creation. E.g. Poltava Regional Military Administration, local self-government bodies, regional enterprises, volunteers, and the clergy.
“The units that are part of the regiment already have a rich history of victories in anti-aircraft battles, during which they have repeatedly demonstrated high professional skill, responsibility and endurance,” the Air Command East emphasized.
Air Command East is an operational unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and parts of Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Poltava and Sumy regions.
Established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated January 23, 2017.
Its main task is round-the-clock protection of the state border in the airspace and cover from air strikes of administrative centers, industrial and economic districts, facilities of the cascade of hydropower plants on the river Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia NPP, and military facilities in the east and southeast of Ukraine.
