Ukraine agreed with Estonia on joint efforts to convince partners to deliver more air defense systems.
This was announced by Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
According to him, two parties represented by Dmytro Kuleba and Urmas Reinsalu, Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Estonia, coordinated joint work in this direction.
“In a conversation with Urmas Reinsalu, we welcomed the EU Council’s support for bringing the Russian Federation to justice for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. We discussed the next steps on the way to the special tribunal. Coordinated joint work to convince partners to provide Ukraine with more air defense systems,” said Dmytro Kuleba.
Recently, Denys Smazhnyi, the Head of the training of the anti-aircraft missile forces of Ukraine, stated that the Ukrainian defense needs more anti-aircraft missiles.
One of the problems is that most of the systems that Ukraine uses come from Soviet times and are therefore outdated.
The NASAMS and IRIS-T systems provided by Germany are much more advanced for target detection due to the integration of various data sources.
“We need to replace our outdated systems because they just won’t be able to handle these threats in the coming times. And we are running out of missiles,” said Smazhnyi.
Currently, Ukraine does not have enough air defense units to cover every part of the country.
Russia’s military is trying to bypass Ukrainian air defense systems using either terrain or intelligence about where the systems are located.
The locations of Ukrainian air defenses are constantly changing, but the Russians adapt in response.
Ukraine’s need for Western air defense is to close coverage gaps, especially with systems that can launch missiles over longer distances.
