Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, explained which weapons Ukraine will soon receive from Allies.
The statement was made at the press conference by the NATO Secretary General at the Ministers of Defence meeting. The list includes means for countering drones of Russian and Iranian production.
Jens Stoltenberg did not disclose the type of such systems and their manufacturer.
“Within this package, NATO will soon deliver some anti-drone equipment to Ukraine. In particular, hundreds of means for jamming drones, which can help make Russian and Iranian-made drones ineffective, as well as protect Ukrainian residents and critical infrastructure,” said Jens Stoltenberg.
He added that in the long term, the partners will also help Ukraine move from Soviet equipment to modern NATO equipment.
“NATO supplies advanced systems, including artillery defense systems, artillery and armored vehicles. I welcome Spain’s announcement today that it will provide 4 Hawk launchers to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense,” the Secretary General added.
The threat of ammunition remains a serious problem for Ukraine, so the need for systems that can withstand these threats is urgent and important.
In Ukraine, anti-drone guns are already used, but they are designed against light drones.
The air defense of Ukraine is forced to use anti-aircraft missiles against Iranian-made heavy “Geran-2” (“Shahed-136”) loitering munitions.
According to Ukraine’s intelligence services, Russia ordered 2,400 Shahed-136 barrage ammunition.
The first reports of Russia’s use of barrage ammunition “Shahed-136” in the war against Ukraine appeared in early September. In Russia, the drone is designated by the name “Geran-2.”
In 2021, Iran first showed a launcher on a Shahed-136 multiple launch truck. Containers with such drones can be easily placed not only on trucks, but also on railway cars, various ships and other mobile means.
