President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres in Lviv today.
The UN Secretary General arrived in Ukraine the day before, and the President of Turkey flew out in the morning.
During Guterres’ previous visit to Kyiv, Russia fired missiles at the capital of Ukraine. During the current visit, Russia continues bombarding the eastern Ukraine: Kharkiv once again suffered a devastating missile attack.
The UN Secretary General will discuss the possibilities for de-escalating the war in Lviv, Deputy Secretary General Farhan Haq said.
Commenting on the arrival of the UN Secretary General, Volodymyr Zelenskyi in his evening video address the day before noted that in Lviv the leaders will “work on achieving the results that Ukraine needs.”
On the eve of the trip, the Turkish side released a statement saying that the parties will discuss ending the Russian-Ukrainian war by “diplomatic means” at the Lviv meeting.
According to the NTV channel, the Turkish side also plans to discuss the return of two Turkish Air Force A440M aircraft that were in Ukraine before the war.
In February, two A400M-180 military transport aircraft of the Turkish Air Force were stuck in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
Turkish transport planes arrived at Boryspil International Airport a few hours before the start of Russia’s invasion to Ukraine.
They were supposed to evacuate Turkish citizens.
Currently, two Turkish A400Ms are seen in new satellite images opposite the terminal of Boryspil airport.
Turkish military aircraft cannot leave Kyiv because of a high risk to flight safety.
