A depot with explosive objects exploded in the west of Berlin. As a result, the flames covered about 15 thousand square meters of forest.
The explosion occurred at a police munitions storage site in the Grunewald, district in the west of the capital of Germany, Berlin.
According to the fire department, explosives and fireworks were stored along with another staff.
The police explosive test site is used to dispose of explosive devices.
The rescuers started watering the forest areas next to the scene, making it difficult for the fire to spread.
“Explosion noise should be expected, unpleasant sensations from the smell of burning are possible,” the German fire service said in a statement.
More than 100 firefighters, water cannons, a police helicopter, and the German military are working at the scene.
Rescuers assure that the fire does not pose an immediate danger to residential buildings. No one was injured in the explosion at the warehouse.
Extinguishing the fire is complicated by the drought in Grunewald and the number of explosives left in the warehouse.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown.
Back in 2004, German politicians called to close this place.
It was reported that this particularly explosive place has no place in a local recreation area.
