The US claims that Russia is trying to fabricate evidence regarding the deaths of Ukrainian POWs in the Olenivka prison.
The Associated Press reported about this.
The news agency reports that U.S. officials believe Russia is working on fabricating evidence concerning last week’s death of Ukrainian POWs in the Olenivka prison in the temporarily Russian-occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
U.S. intelligence officials have determined that Russia is looking to plant false evidence to make it appear that Ukrainian forces were responsible for the July 29 attack on the Olenivka Prison that left 53 dead and dozens more wounded, a U.S. official familiar with the intelligence finding said Wednesday.
The official, who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, said the classified intelligence — which was recently downgraded — shows that Russians might even plant ammunition from medium-ranged High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, as evidence that the systems provided by the U.S. to Ukraine were used in the attack.
Russia is expected to take the action as it anticipates independent investigators and journalists to eventually get access to the Olenivka prison, the official added.
As previously reported, according to US officials, Ukraine did not strike at the Olenivka prison with US-made rocket launchers. Speaking on condition of anonymity, US officials told Politico that no evidence of weapons provided by the US was found at the site.
On the morning of July 29, Russian propagandists announced the death of Ukrainian prisoners of war. They were kept in a penitentiary facility in the occupied Olenivka village of the Donetsk кegion.
Subsequently, the Security Service of Ukraine published the telephone conversations of the so-called “DPR” fighters. They were discussing the provocation and explosions from inside the building.
The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that mercenaries of the “PMC Wagner” are behind the explosions. They committed a terrorist act to hide the embezzlement of funds allocated for keeping these prisoners of war.
The Security Service of Ukraine, the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights issued a joint statement on the mass murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war in occupied Olenivka.
Ukrainian leaders of the law enforcement agencies demanded from the UN and the Red Cross International Committee to make an appropriate reaction to the death of the Ukrainian soldiers.
