According to US officials, Ukraine did not strike at the colony in Olenivka with US-made rocket launchers.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, US officials told Politico that no evidence of weapons provided by the US was found at the site.

“We know Ukraine didn’t attack the site with HIMARS because the site doesn’t have the indications it would have if it was hit with HIMARS,” one of the officials said.

One official said there was evidence to suggest the attack was not carried out by Kyiv.

Satellite images of the facility, published by Maxar Technologies on July 30, show damage to only one colony building in which Ukrainian prisoners were located.

Meanwhile, the United Nations said it was ready to investigate the deaths of dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka.

UN spokesman Farhan Haq said that if both sides agree, the UN is ready to send experts there.

“Because of the recent tragedy at the prison in Olenivka, we are ready to send a group of experts capable of conducting an investigation with the permission of the parties,” he said.

The International Committee of the Red Cross said on July 30 that it was seeking access to the scene, but so far it had not been granted permission.

On the evening of July 30, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Moscow officially invites UN and International Red Cross experts to investigate the strike on the colony in Olenivka. The involvement of international experts was also demanded by the authorities of Ukraine.

One of the barracks of the penal colony in the village of Olenivka in the Donetsk Region was destroyed on the night of 28 to July 29. At least 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war who were held there were killed.

Russian occupation forces said the cause was allegedly shelling by Ukrainian forces by the HIMARS system. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed that the Ukrainian military did not carry out artillery or rocket attacks on the colony in Olenivka.
