Ukraine will receive spare barrels from Canada to maintain the M777 artillery systems.
The allocation of new military assistance was announced by Anita Anand, the Minister of Defense of Canada.
She said that Ukraine will be provided with 10 replacement barrels intended for the towed М777 howitzers, which were previously handed over by the Western partners to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for defense against Russian aggression.
The cost of the next package of military assistance is estimated at about CAD 9 million and complements the previously donated M777 howitzers, over 20,000 artillery rounds, and training of the Ukrainian military by the Armed Forces of Canada to use this equipment.
This military assistance supplements the aid that Canada has already shipped to Ukraine since February 2022. This includes the transfer of towed M777 howitzers from the Canadian Armed Forces reserves and the commitment to purchase over 20,000 155-mm artillery rounds from the United States.
Transfer of spare barrels will ensure the safety and accuracy of M777 howitzers, as worn barrels require regular replacement.
This support is consistent with the support of critical needs provided to Ukraine by allies and partners.
In April, Canada shipped the M777 howitzers to Ukraine as part of the military aid worth over CAD 130 million.
In April, it was reported that Ukraine would be receiving Excalibur high-precision long-range projectiles for 155-mm howitzers from Canada.
Canada will also purchase and ship 20,000 155-mm artillery rounds to Ukraine.
Last month, Defense Minister Anita Anand announced that the Canadian government will spend almost 100 million dollars on purchasing 155-mm ammunition.
Recently, the Ukrainian Defense Force received the new Senator Armored Personnel Carrier armored vehicles from Canada.
