The European Union seeks to end the war waged by Russia against Ukraine as soon as possible.

Interfax-Ukraine reports that Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union, has stressed the need to continue arming Ukraine and putting pressure on the Kremlin.

“This war must be ended as soon as possible. But how will it be finished? The sooner the better, but not by any means. If those means would leave the country in ruins, territorially dismantled, neutralized, with millions of people in exile and millions being dead, then no.

We don’t want the war to be over like this.

And to prevent this from happening, we must continue supporting Ukraine. Therefore, we must continue to arm Ukraine and provide even more assistance.

We want to give more weapons. This is what Ukrainians expect from us, and this is what we are doing and we must do even more and even faster,” Borrell said in his address at the European Parliament on Wednesday.

Josep Borrell brought to attention that the EU has already provided Ukraine with arms and weapons in the value of EUR 1 billion.

“It may look like it’s a lot, but the fact is that we are paying Putin every day for the energy that he supplies us. We have paid him EUR 35 billion since the beginning of the war. Now compare this to the EUR 1 billion in weapons that we have provided Ukraine. That is a huge difference and it should highlight the importance and need to reduce our dependency.

Today, we have put an end to coal, but this is only a small portion of the bill (which the EU pays for energy to the Kremlin),” Borrell said.

Thus, he had reiterated the need for the EU to become independent and energy-autonomous.

As reported earlier, the Republic of Estonia had shipped a batch of lethal weapons, including 122-mm howitzers, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, Estonia has donated anti-tank missiles, howitzers, anti-tank mines, recoilless anti-tank guns, automatic weapons, ammunition, disposable grenade launchers, hand grenades, and anti-tank missiles compatible with the Ukrainian lethal weapons, most probably Javelin systems.
