Analysis of satellite images showed that the bodies of civilians in Bucha had been laying in the streets for weeks during the city was under Russian occupation.

Militarnyi reports about this with reference to The New York Times.

After the release of images of the city, Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that Ukraine had staged a provocation, and the bodies emerged on the streets only after the de-occupation.

The review of videos and satellite imagery from Bucha shows that many of the civilians were killed over three weeks ago when Russia’s military had control over the town.

One video made by a local city council member on April 2, captures multiple bodies scattered along Yablonska Street in Bucha.

Satellite images provided to The Times by Maxar Technologies show that at least 11 of those had already been on the street since March 11, when Russia, by its own account, was in control of the town.

To confirm the time when the bodies appeared and when the civilians had probably been killed, the Visual Investigations Team at The Times conducted a before-and-after analysis of satellite imagery.

The images show dark objects of similar to a human body size appearing on Yablonska Street between March 9 and March 11.

The objects emerged in the precise positions in which the bodies were found after Ukrainian forces reclaimed Bucha, as the footage from April 2 shows.

Further analysis shows that the objects remained in those positions for over three weeks.

A second video taken on Yablonska Street captures three more bodies.

One lies beside a bicycle, another one near an abandoned car. Satellite imagery shows that the abandoned cars and the nearby body had first appeared between March 20 and 21.
