Ukrainian research icebreaker vessel “Noosphera” passed sea trials before starting the Antarctic expedition.
It is reported by Militarnyi with reference to the National Antarctic Scientific Center.
“Noosphera” will returned to Odessa after completing maintenance and will be there before sortie to Antarctica.
All maintenance was on “ISRY” Shiprepair Yard in Chernomorsk.
During the transition from Chernomorsk to Odesa “Noosphera” passed sea trials under the supervision of the Shipping Register of Ukraine.
The work of the engines, the control of the vessel on different rate of speeds, as well as the readiness for the descent of rescue boats and rafts, the work of anchors and deck equipment, in particular, devices for immersion of scientific instruments and samplers, etc.
Separately, the dynamic positioning system (DPS) was tested, which allows you to hold the ship for hours at the same point with a deviation of several centimeters.
In Ukraine, “Noosphera” is the first vessel equipped with this system.
All tests were successful, so from the technical side the ship is ready for the first expedition and work in difficult conditions of the southern seas.
The entrance to Antarctica is scheduled at the end of January, because a large number of cargoes should still be delivered on board both to ensure the sailing and to rotation the year-round expedition at the Vernadsky Research Base.
Recall that on August 19, 2021, the Ukrainian National Antarctic Research Centre and the UK Research and Innovation organization signed an act to purchase the RRS James Clark Ross vessel.
