Ukraine will receive about 100 IRIS-T guided missiles from Germany in the near future.

The German Mission to NATO announced this on social media platform X after the 26th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.

“Future support for Ukraine in the form of equipment and military training was confirmed at today’s group meeting, with the participation of more than 50 countries. Germany will continue to play an important role in this support and has announced the delivery of about 100 IRIS-T guided missiles to Ukraine in the near future,” the statement reads.

The mission also added that joint ventures with the Ukrainian defense industry, particularly in developing drones and maintaining infantry fighting vehicles and battle tanks, play an important role in supporting Ukraine and strengthening its industrial base.

It is noted that Germany also benefits from “mutual knowledge transfer.”

The German Aid to Ukraine monitoring project reports that this is likely to be the supply of anti-aircraft missiles for the IRIS-T system, which were announced earlier.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius promised about 50 IRIS-T missiles during the January meeting in the Ramstein format on January 9.

On January 14, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that Germany would supply another 60 IRIS-T missiles during Pistorius’ visit to Kyiv.

Thus, German Aid to Ukraine estimates that the total number of missiles to be delivered is about 110 IRIS-T missiles.

It does not specify whether the anti-aircraft missiles in question are SLM or SLS. They differ from each other in chassis, missiles, and range of air target interception.

IRIS-T from Germany

At the end of December, Militarnyi reported that Germany had transferred the sixth IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine as part of military assistance.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this at a briefing after the European Council’s meeting in Brussels. At the time, he did not specify which version of the systems he was talking about.
