The White House has prepared a draft military assistance package for Ukraine in the amount of $1 billion.

A senior White House official shared this with Reuters on August 5, 2022.

Ukraine will be receiving the NASAMS air defense system missiles. The US announced the purchasing process of this Norwegian-American air defense complex at the end of July. Ukraine is expected to receive two batteries.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will also receive additional ammunition for the HIMARS missile systems. As of now, Ukraine has received 16 launchers.

In addition, the package includes 50 sanitary M113 armored personnel carriers. Previously, the United States made a decision to transfer 200 units of M113 from its reserves.

Joe Biden has not yet signed an executive order listing all the items of assistance; thus, the amount and nomenclature might still be changing.

The new aid is expected to be officially announced on Monday, August 8.

After the announcement, the total US military assistance to Ukraine after February 24 will amount to $8.8 billion.
