Finland might be joining the countries where the training of the Ukrainian military is being conducted.
Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen stated this, Helsingin Sanomat reports.
The country also continues providing assistance to Ukraine and is preparing the tenth package of military aid.
“Such an option is not excluded, yet this question remains open. As our possible role in the EU training operation gains more detail, we will consider how and where the training would be most appropriate,” Kaikkonen said.
As of now, twenty Finnish military instructors are already participating in the training program in Great Britain, which provides basic training for the Ukrainian military.
According to Kaikkonen, the Finnish program of Ukrainian Armed Forces training is likely to intensify as well.
“I think it is likely that we will strengthen our support for Ukraine through military training. We will consider the scope and methods of engagement as a whole between the UK training program and the EU training mission,” the Defense Minister said.
Finland has already shipped nine packages of military aid to Ukraine, and the tenth is expected to be dispatched soon.
“We are also preparing the tenth package of defense aid to Ukraine. Decisions on this might also be made very soon,” Antti Kaikkonen said.
As previously reported, the Ukrainian military is already using Finnish Sisu XA-180/185 armored personnel carriers. This equipment likely arrived from the stockpiles of the Finnish army as part of one of the packages to support Ukraine’s defense capability.
The Territorial Defense of Ukraine received 23 ItK 61 anti-aircraft guns from Finland. This model differs from the initial ZU-23-2 version by a gyro-stabilized sight, a laser rangefinder, a thermal imager, and even its own generator.
In August of this year, Finland sent instructors to Great Britain to train the Ukrainian military.
