Germany will provide Ukraine with another €20 million. These funds will be used to purchase Starlink terminals.
A third of them will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany reported this.
During her visit to Kharkiv, Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, mentioned that Berlin will finance the purchase of 10,000 Starlinks.
“Access to the Internet is a lifesaver for local residents and allows the rest of the world to know what is happening in Ukraine. Starlink closes the gap where there is no longer access to the Internet due to the destroyed civilian infrastructure. Germany will provide €20 million for this purpose. In total, 10,000 ground stations could be financed with these funds. A third of the ground stations will also benefit the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Real-time communication allows Ukrainian soldiers to coordinate the defense of the Motherland and better defend against Russian attacks,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
As previously reported, Ukraine reached a deal with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. to receive additional Starlink terminals. Over 10,000 devices will be shipped to Ukraine in the coming months.
According to Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already received 22,000 Starlinks.
Terminals help energy companies, fire departments, rescuers, hospitals, and the Ukrainian military to secure internet connection.
